Laser Endoscopic Discectomy
Laser Endoscopic Discectomy is one of the newest, most advanced treatments available for disc herniations and pinched nerves.
This innovative procedure is an excellent alternative to traditional, open spine surgery. Endoscopic Discectomy is a minimally invasive spine procedure utilizing a medical laser and telescope-like instrument called an endoscope.
Laser Endoscopic Discectomy is performed in an out patient setting. After local anesthetic is administered, a small incision is made, then a tube-like instrument is passed to the injured disc without cutting the surrounding muscles. An endoscope and a medical laser are passed into the disc, vaporizing the herniation and removing abnormal bone and scar tissue. This enables a significant decrease in pressure on the spinal cord and surrounding nerves.
When the procedure is complete, the endoscope and instruments are slowly removed. The incision is then closed with 1-2 sutures.
Endoscopic Discectomy is a relatively short procedure, taking approximately 60 minutes to complete per disc level. After a 45-60 minute post-op evaluation, the patient is free to return home with a soft brace and usually 1-2 sutures.
Endoscopic Discectomy is used to treat the following conditions:
Cervical/Thoracic/Lumbar disc herniationsBulging discs
Degenerative disc disease
Nerve root compression
Radiculitis
Radiculopathy
Failed back surgery
Scar tissue
Pinched Nerves
