The spine, or vertebral column, is composed of 33 individual bones called vertebrae: 7 Cervical (neck), 12 Thoracic (mid back), 5 Lumbar (lower back), 5 Sacral (pelvis), and 4 Coccygeal (tail bone). Located between each vertebrae are discs which act as the shock absorbers for the spine. The importance of the spine in daily movements causes spine injuries to be very painful!
